Global industrial minerals business

WE Soda is now one of the largest global industrial minerals companies, and the world’s largest soda ash producer and distributor with current capacity of 9.5 million mtpa.

2025

Acquisition of Alkali

$1.4 billion US acquisition, including two major production facilities, Westvaco and Granger in Wyoming, a port operation in Portland Oregon and ANSAC, a wholly owned global distribution subsidiary.

2023

Acquisition of controlling interest in Derince Port

Over 80% of our Türkiye production is exported, with almost 70% exported in bulk from our dedicated port facility at Derince, 300km from our Türkiye manufacturing facilities.

2022

Combined production volumes of more than 5 million tonnes

Significant milestone reached, manufacturing and distributing over 5 million mtpa of soda ash and sodium bicarbonate globally.

2017

Eti site expansion and Kazan site production started

Following an investment of over $1.9 billion to develop the facility, Kazan commenced production in 2017 and now produces over 3 million mtpa of soda ash and sodium bicarbonate with over 30 years of mineable trona reserves remaining.

2014

Kazan site construction started

Located near Ankara, Türkiye, the Kazan facility comprises solution extraction mining, a 3 million mtpa processing facility and a gas-powered cogeneration facility producing power and steam for the plant with excess power exported to the grid.

2009

Eti site production started

Now producing 2 million mtpa, Eti was the first soda ash production facility in the world to utilise innovative solution extraction technology on a commercial scale and has nearly 20 years of mineable trona reserves remaining.

2007

Eti site construction started

Located approximately 100km west of Ankara, the Eti manufacturing site was developed with an initial investment of $700 million and further expanded in 2017.
