The successful implementation of our sustainability plan requires robust scrutiny and oversight. We continue to strengthen our governance framework and define clear responsibilities of those involved in the delivery of our Sustainability Plan.

Governance framework

Our Sustainability Committee, chaired by Rosalind Kainyah, plays a critical role in ensuring that WE Soda’s sustainability strategy is integrated with our core business strategy.

Membership and full details of our Sustainability Committee can be found within our Annual Report.

Our CEO has overall responsibility for sustainability, and is supported by our Chief Sustainability Officer in the design and delivery of our sustainability strategy.

Our local sustainability teams oversee the execution of our sustainability strategy and are responsible for the co-ordination of our strategic working groups across our operations, which design, develop and implement projects across our operations to deliver against our sustainability targets.

Benchmarking our performance

WE Soda holds a comprehensive set of ESG certifications with internationally recognised third-party organisations.

Our accreditations demonstrate our commitment to best practise and outstanding environmental performance, communicates transparent and comparable information about the environmental impact of our products and production processes, and supports our sustainability targets.

We strive for our operations to be among the "best in class" by abiding by global sustainability frameworks, standards and ratings. Our current certifications and ratings include:

EcoVadis

In January 2025, we were awarded a platinum medal for the second year in a row by EcoVadis, a leading provider of global sustainability ratings. This places us in the top 1% of companies rated by EcoVadis in the basic chemicals sector.

Platinum Sustainability Rating

Sustainalytics

In August 2024, Morningstar Sustainalytics published its first public corporate ESG Risk Rating assessment of WE Soda, in which we received an ESG Risk Rating Score of 17.9 (2023: 14.7). Within the universe of companies assessed by Morningstar Sustainalytics and at the date of the assessment, this placed us as the lowest ESG risk rated soda ash producer globally.

Environmental Product Declaration ("EPD")

Eti and Kazan are both certified by EPD, which provides comparable, objective and third-party verified information about the low carbon footprint and environmental performance of our products.

CarbonClear™

Using independent standards for life cycle assessment ("LCA"), product carbon footprinting, and extractive industry sector-specific rules, we have been independently verified as CarbonClear™ by Intertek. WE Soda is the first soda ash producer to receive this certification.

International Organization for Standardization ("ISO")

Eti and Kazan retain ISO certification which requires processes and sustainable operating practices that meet internationally recognised standards. These include amongst others Quality Management, Environmental Management, Occupational Health & Safety Management and Energy Management Systems.

Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance ("IRMA")

IRMA is a global, multi-sector initiative that sets standards for industrial-scale mining. We have the ambition to achieve IRMA 75 accreditation across all our mining sites by 2030. In 2025, we began the IRMA self-assessment (starting in Türkiye) and we are securing commitments from other raw material suppliers in Türkiye to adopt these same standards.
